Police arrest man wanted in fatal Eastway Drive hit and run

Police in Charlotte have arrested a man they say hit and killed a woman with his pickup truck Thursday evening.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police on Friday charged a 50-year-old man with felony hit-and-run in the death of a pedestrian who was halfway across Eastway Drive Thursday evening when she was struck by a pickup.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police on Friday charged a 50-year-old man with felony hit-and-run in the death of a pedestrian who was halfway across Eastway Drive Thursday evening when she was struck by a 2003 GMC, C5500, pickup truck.

Lola Jean Williams, 54, was killed about 6:20 p.m. near Eastway Crossing Drive, police said. The white pickup then headed north toward Central Avenue, police said.

Roger Danilo Villanueva contacted police at about 9 a.m. Friday, was interviewed and charged in the death, Sgt. David Sloan said. Police recovered the truck and were processing it for evidence, Sloan said.
