Quanisha Layjoyce Cherry killed, driver Adoma Connor charged, after their car is struck by tractor-trailer.
Man charged after passenger killed in wreck with tractor trailer.
Police in Charlotte say a man has been charged after a woman riding in his vehicle was killed in a crash with a tractor trailer early Monday morning.
According to police, Adoma Connor's 1988 Lincoln Town Car was involved in a wreck along the 3900 block of N. Graham Street on Monday morning.
Connor told police that his car " shuttered" and he applied the brakes. That's when he says the car suddenly turned to the left and stopped across both southbound lanes of North Graham.
Connor told officers that he was unable to move the car due to a bad shift linkage.
The vehicle came to a stop directly in front of a Mack truck, towing a trailer.
The tractor trailer struck the Lincoln Town Car on the passenger side, police said, killing 27-year-old Quanisha Layjoyce Cherry, who was in the passenger seat of Connor's vehicle.
N. Graham Street between W. Craighead and Starita Roads was temporarily closed for about three hours after the wreck.
Officers say at the time of the crash it was still dark outside and raining lightly.
Connor was arrested for Misdemeanor death by vehicle.
This case is being Investigated by The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Departments Major Crash Investigation Unit and the North Carolina Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Unit.
