Officials told local media outlets that the tank exploded in flames late Sunday and started a fire in the home in Fallston, in the grass nearby and the roof of a nearby home.
Officials said a husband and wife in the home died from injuries in the explosion.
The husband and wife have been identified as Johnie Newton, 74, and Naomi Newton, 76, of Fallston, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
The truck driver was taken to a hospital. There was no word on the driver's condition.
