Fire truck in Gaston County hits, kills pedestrian

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a man has been struck and killed by a fire truck as he stepped into the middle of the road in Gaston County.

“I run up here and they were doing chest compressions and CPR,” he said. “It happened right here but the truck took him about 50 yards.”

A man was walking home from a bar around 6 p.m. in Ranlo when he stepped into the middle of the road and was hit by a fire truck. The man was reportedly not in a crosswalk, and the firetruck was traveling under the speed limit. The man's name has not been released. More information as it is posted.
