Dustin Skinner, a deputy with the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department, one other driver, injured, both taken to hospital, after a two-car collision on Dekalb Street in Shelby.

A Cleveland County deputy and one other person were taken to the hospital Wednesday after a crash in Shelby.

According to the sheriff's office, the accident happened around 5 p.m. on DeKalb Street extension, near Shelby High School.

Officials said Deputy Dustin Skinner and another driver collided, but have not said what may have caused the accident.

Deputy Skinner was taken to the hospital and was later released. The other driver, whose name has not been released, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the Shelby Police Department.

Skinner has been with the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office for less than one year.

Shelby Police are handling the investigation.
