North Stokes High School student critically injured in crash

A 14-year-old Stokes County student and her mother were taken to the hospital following a crash Tuesday night.

Officials are still investigating whether the two victims had seatbelts on. Investigators plan to check cell phone records, which Sgt. Baker said is typical when there is not an obvious cause of the accident.

According to NC Highway Patrol, Jamie Haynes, 38, was driving on Highway 89 when she over corrected and crossed the line which caused the car to overturn. Highway Patrol reports that no alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident.

Jamie Haynes and her daughter Crystal Gwyn were riding in a car around 8 p.m. on Highway 89. The car went off the road and flipped down an embankment. The two were taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treament. Gwyn is listed in critical condition.
