Woman charged in fatal Elon crash
A Burlington woman was charged Thursday on traffic violations in connection with a fatal car wreck in Elon. Law enforcement said additional charges are pending.
Jeanette Lynn Miles, 40, of 9 Styles Thompson Dr. in Burlington was charged with reckless driving, stop light violation and seat belt violation for a Nov. 15 wreck at the intersection of University Drive and Shallowford Church Road in Elon, said a spokesperson with the Highway Patrol.
Miles is accused of running a red light and hitting a minivan. The driver of the minivan, Haywood King, 86, of Elon, was ejected from his vehicle. Both Miles and King were airlifted to UNC Hospitals. King died from his injuries on Monday.
Miles was charged at UNC Hospitals on Thursday. Charges in connection with King's death are still pending.
The wreck in Elon on Nov. 15 was not Miles' only wreck that day. About 9:30 a.m., she was involved in a wreck on Wendover Avenue at Elwell Avenue in Greensboro, according to Greensboro police.
Miles is accused of fleeing the scene of the wreck before police arrived. She was charged with hit-and-run, according to police.
