Interstate 40 East in Greensboro Reopens Following Deadly Crash

A witness told investigators that a car was trying to merge into traffic but the driver over-corrected to avoid hitting a tractor trailer.

The vehicle overturned and three passengers were ejected.

Alejandra Chan-Carrasco, 34, and Irma Torres-Patino, 57, both of Mexico, were ejected from the vehicle and have died from their injuries, Danielsen said.

Jorge Luis Fernandez-Torres, 33, of Mexico, died from injuries sustained in the crash on Thursday, the release said.   

Deadly crash on I-40 in Greensboro a reminder to wear seat belts

In 2016, more than 450 people died in North Carolina because they didn't wear their seat belts. Another 600 people were seriously hurt. The NCDOT wants to brings those numbers to zero.
