Four people, including a suspect, were injured in a multi-vehicle crash during a police chase in Winston-Salem Wednesday. Police allege the suspect struck two officers and had a "large quantity" of drugs and cash in his car.

The crash happened around 1:25 p.m. at the intersection of Patterson Avenue and University Parkway. All four people were taken to hospitals with apparently minor injuries, Winston-Salem police said.

The suspect in the chase, Tyrone Baxter Kirby, 32, of Winston-Salem, is in police custody at Forsyth Hospital. His charges were still pending as of Wednesday afternoon.

In a statement, police said officers conducted a routine traffic stop on a 2006 Dodge driven by Kirby in the 4100 block of Patterson Avenue around 1:15 p.m. Officers tried to arrest Kirby after noticing drugs, but Kirby resisted arrest and was able to get back into his car, police said.

Kirby intentionally hit both officers as he sped off, but neither officer was seriously injured, police said.

Officers chased the car north on Patterson Avenue until it hit a 2007 Toyota and a 1994 Oldsmobile in the University Parkway intersection, police said. Three people in the Oldsmobile were injured, while nobody in the Toyota was hurt.

Kirby was taken into custody at the crash scene.
