The box truck was traveling north on 264 when it ran off the road and crossed through the median. In the southbound lane was a car with five teenagers inside.
Troopers say Pedraza was driving too fast for the rainy conditions. He faces charges of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
Sgt. B.A. Taylor with the Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 11:43 a.m. on the US Hwy. 264 Bypass south of NC 43, 1.3 miles north of Greenville’s city limits.
One of the teens was a rising star on the softball pitch. Two of them were siblings -- with one set to walk across the stage this weekend.
