According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Mykayia Quintara Wilder of Ahoskie was driving east on NC 561at around 7:40 p.m. when she lost control and slid sideways into oncoming traffic. At this point, a pickup driven by Brian Keith Matthews struck Wilder's car on the driver's side.
