Thirteen people were taken to hospitals after a private North Carolina ferry ran aground Tuesday morning.

The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating after the vessel headed to Bald Head Island, a vacation resort, stopped suddenly.
A North Carolina ferry injured 13 passengers when it hit a sand bar and stopped suddenly Tuesday morning, officials said. An "Adventure Ferry" headed to Bald Head Island was traveling about 20 mph when it hit the sand bar and abruptly stopped near Battery Island after 9 a.m. There were 31 people on board — one of whom may have been seriously injured, the station reported. That person was airlifted to a nearby hospital with chest and spinal injuries. The U.S. Coast Guard is at the scene and investigating the accident.
