Motorcyclist Killed In Marion County 3-Vehicle Crash

Dietrich crashed into the right side of the Focus in the northbound lanes, ejecting him from the motorcycle. Dietrich then struck the Expedition and landed on the roadway.
A man was killed following a three-vehicle crash in Marion County Thursday afternoon. Troopers from the Marion post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the crash at about 2:30 p.m. on Pole Lane Road, south of Patten Pike, in Marion Township. According to troopers say a 2004 Ford Expedition, driven by Sarah El McDonald, 30, of Caledonia, was traveling north on Pole Lane Road behind a 2011 Ford Focus. A the same time, a 1977 BMW R75/7 motorcycle, driven by Alfred T. Deitrich, 69, of Marion, was traveling south on Pole Lane Road. McDonald attempted to turn left into a private drive, but failed to yield to the motorcycle. Dietrich crashed into the right side of the Focus in the northbound lanes, ejecting him from the motorcycle. Dietrich then struck the Expedition and landed on the roadway. Dietrich was transported to Marion General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to troopers. The driver of the Focus, Angelica L. Dye, 20, of Marion, was not injured in the crash. Her passenger, Lynn Matheny, 20, sustained minor injuries. She was not transported from the scene. McDonald was not injured in the crash. She has seven children between the ages of 6 months and 12 years in the vehicle at the time of the crash. None of the children were injured. All occupants of the Expedition and Focus were wearing seatbelts, or were in child restraints at the time of the crash. Dietrich was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
