Former Olympian, Ohio State coach killed in Sandusky County crash

Ms. Rallins competed in track and field in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City and the 1972 Olympics in Munich. She later turned her athletic career into coaching at The Ohio State University in 1976, where she served as the first women's track and field and cross country coach for 18 years. Ms. Rallins was the first African-American female coach at OSU. She was recognized by the school in January with the Phyllis Bailey Career Achievement Award.

Rallins, who competed collegiately at Tennessee, arrived at Ohio State in 1976 after having competed as a hurdler at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics. She coached 60 Big Ten indoor and outdoor champions at Ohio State, as well as 24 All-Americans, nine Olympic qualifiers and one Olympian (Stephanie Hightower) during an 18-year career.
