Leon Edward Bates III, 30, dies from injuries from car crash on June 24 on Interstate 70 in Columbus.

A man died Wednesday from complications with injuries he sustained in a crash that occurred on Interstate 70 on Tuesday evening.

According to Columbus police, the crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of I-70 just west of James Road in east Columbus at about 7:04 p.m.

Investigators say that Leon Edward Bates III, 30, was attempting to move off the right side of the road at a slow rate of speed. He may have been experiencing trouble with his vehicle.

As he was pulling off the right side of the road, Bates’ vehicle was struck by another vehicle, driven by Ebony K. Williams, 29, of Columbus. Bates’ vehicle was forced off the right side of the road in the crash.

Bates was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Grant Medical Center. Police say that Bates died at the hospital on Wednesday night after he developed complications.

Williams was not injured in the crash.
