One person killed after car strikes school bus

One person was killed this morning when a school bus and car collided in Miami County Five Milton-Union students were injured and a driver of a car was killed following a collision with a school bus. Other students on the bus were put on another bus and transported to Milton-Union schools to be checked out for injuries. The driver of the car was killed at the scene. Five students on the bus were taken to Upper Valley Medical Center with minor injuries. The car was torn into pieces and caught fire following the collision.

(Natalie Jovonovich/Staff) The school bus driver involved in the Jan. 28 deadly head-on collision on Ohio 55, and the school staffers first on the scene to help the children on that bus, were honored at the Milton-Union Exempted Village School Board meeting. The applause that filled the meeting room brought bus driver Diane Kaufmann to tears as she heard the words printed on a certificate to honor her. Kaufmann was driving the bus struck head-on when a car, driven by 21-year-old Taylor Dickey, crossed left of center. JoDell Garrison, a bus driver for Milton-Union Exempted Village Schools, said, “Didi did everything she was supposed to, unfortunately it was the best of the worst case scenario.” Kaufmann’s fellow drivers turned out Monday night to support her and the staff that stopped to help that morning. According to the preliminary investigation by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Dickey’s car was traveling an estimated 101 mph and accelerating on impact.

Service set for woman killed in school bus crash

The investigation continues into Thursday morning’s head-on collision on Ohio 55, which involved a school bus, that left 21-year-old Taylor Dickey, the driver of the car, dead. 

Alcohol factor in fatal collision

The blood alcohol level of Dickey was listed as 0.293. The legal blood alcohol limit in Ohio is 0.08. The report also listed two antidepressants present in her system at the time of her death. No drugs were detected according to results.
