Driver sent 69 texts during trip before crash that killed Oklahoma...

WEWOKA — The driver who killed an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper in January had been texting back and forth with a woman he'd met on the Internet and was on his way to see a different woman he'd met online, an investigation found. Clark was on his way to to see another woman he'd met on the Internet, the lead investigator said. The lead investigator, trooper Matthew Ledbetter, said Clark was texting with a woman he'd met on the Internet. The judge was told an analysis of Clark's cellphone found he'd received 73 text messages and sent 69 during the drive. The investigator said the two had a sexual relationship and that most of the texts involved Clark complaining about his fiancee.

Chief Adams also asked the families of Troopers Dees and Burch be kept in prayer during this difficult time, as the outpouring of prayers and sympathy from the public touches the entire O.H.P. family.

 “It was previous collision that involved a semi in the westbound lane,” said Capt. Paul Timmons.

Two Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers, Nicholas Dees and Keith Burch, were hit by a vehicle on westbound I-40 east of Shawnee around 10 p.m. Saturday. The troopers were in the median when a car exited the road and crashed into them. Trooper Dees was pronounced deceased at the crash site, and Trooper Burch was taken to OU Medical Center where he is currently listed in serious condition. The driver of the vehicle was also taken to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition. The cause of the crash is not known at this time.
