Five people, including Arkansas teen, die when pickup crashes into creek

Caldwell was driving the pickup shortly before 10:45 p.m. Sunday when it went off the road and struck a guardrail. The truck veered across the road, slammed through a guardrail and plummeted about 35 feet into the creek, landing on its top.

Investigators release cause for crash that killed 5 Oklahoma students

On Wednesday, officials with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol announced that Caldwell was likely speeding when he tried to negotiate a curve. However, the roadway was wet and his truck slid into the guardrail.

In a report issued Wednesday, investigators say the Sept. 17 wreck near Tahlequah was caused by unsafe speed on a curve and a wet roadway.
