Alternative counts added to fatal hit-and-run case in Rogers County

CLAREMORE — Prosecutors have amended case information for two defendants linked to a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a Verdigris pedestrian and seriously injured her best friend. Thursday, District Court Judge J. Dwayne Steidley passed to Feb. 4 a district court arraignment for Gage Christopher Shriver, 19, of Catoosa, his brother Dakota Alleyn Shriver, 21, of Tahlequah, and their mother, Dorthea Annette Butanda, 39, of Catoosa. The siblings last month were ordered to stand trial on second-degree murder and related counts in connection to a June 5 collision that killed Noelle New, 18, and injured Maranda Talley, 19, at Gordon Road and Oklahoma 266 near Verdigris.

The Shrivers could be charged with manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal accident, and investigators are looking into whether they were driving under the influence.

Investigators found Dakota's wallet on the ground at the scene and tracked the brothers down a home not far away. Monday Dakota Shriver's bond was set at $132,000 and Gage Shriver's bond was set at $144,455.

Oklahoma brothers convicted in deadly hit-and-run crash sentenced to prison

Friday afternoon, Fox 23 reports a judge sentenced each of the brothers to 25 years in prison, which is included to run concurrent with their other charges.

Two people have been arrested after a deadly hit-and-run pedestrian collision in Verdigris Friday morning. Brothers Gage and Dakota Shriver were taken into custody after two women who were walking along the side of a road were struck by a vehicle. One woman was killed; the other was airlifted to a Tulsa hospital and is listed in critical condition.
