Amanda Wall, 28, and 2-year-old boy killed; Cory Wall, 32, and baby, 3 months, injured when semi crashes head-on into pickup on Highway 99 near Junction City, Oregon
A 28-year-old Eugene woman and a 2-year-old traveling in the same pickup truck were killed Tuesday in a collision on Oregon 99W north of Junction City, Oregon State Police said. Amanda D. Wall was pronounced dead at the scene. The child, a boy, was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, police said. The wreck happened about 5:20 p.m. when police said a southbound Kenworth truck towing a box trailer drifted off the highway and onto the shoulder. The truck and trailer then drifted back onto the road and across the center line, slamming into a Ford pickup truck driven by Cory A. Wall of Eugene. Randall G. Likens. 56, of Cheshire in Lane County was driving the Kenworth. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Troopers believe Likens was towing the box trailer south on the highway when the vehicle drifted onto the shoulder. The truck, and the trailer it was towing, then came back onto the highway. The trailer swayed across the centerline into the northbound lanes, into the path of the Walls’ Ford pickup. After the Ford struck the box trailer, Likens’ truck and trailer rolled onto its roof off the highway, troopers said. No citations have been reported, and the crash remains under investigation, police said.
