Recovery underway after car crashes into Columbia River
Water rescue crews responded to the Columbia River, near 159th Avenue and Northeast Marine Drive, after a car crashed into the river Thursday afternoon.
A witness saw the car go into the water, according to Portland police.
Rescue divers were called to the scene.

However, by Thursday evening, strong currents moved the buoy marker attached to the car and crews were forced to try and locate it again.

The car was submerged in about 25 feet of murky water off Northeast Marine Drive, said Lt. Rich Tyler, a Portland Fire & Rescue spokesman. Authorities responded to the crash at about 3:20 p.m. Thursday.
