Man, 22, killed in Indiana County crash

Authorities said alcohol and speed appear to have played a role in a crash that killed a Homer City man overnight on Route 22, according to the Indiana County coroner. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:20 a.m. by county coroner Jerry L. Overman Jr. A female passenger in the car was treated at the scene before being taken to Conemaugh Medical Center in Johnstown. Toby Samuel McCauley, 22, was driving west on Route 22 near its intersection with Route 403 about 2:45 a.m. when he struck a jersey barrier, crossed both westbound lanes, and veered off the road, striking the guiderail and a road sign before ending up at the bottom of an embankment. Overman ruled the death accidental, but the manner remains pending.
