Giovanni Costa,19, from New Castle, was killed early Sunday morning around 2 a.m. in a one-vehicle crash that injured four other people. Driver Andrew Birch, 23, of New Castle, lost control of his vehicle that was traveling westbound of Route 108 in Plain Grove, Lawrence County. The vehicle, with four passengers, exited the road and crashed into a tree. Costa was pronounced deceased at the crash site. Mr. Birch suffered severe injuries and was taken by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. The three remaining passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
