Matthew Hess, 30, and Richard Lowers Jr., 56, die in fiery 3-vehicle crash involving semi on U.S. Route 22 near New Florence, Pennsylvania

2 men dead in fiery western Pa. crash

Both men were driving east before 9 p.m. in West Wheatfield Township, which is near New Florence and about 50 miles east of Pittsburgh. Hess' vehicle rear-ended Lowers' as he was turning off the highway. The impact sent Hess' vehicle into the westbound lanes, where his vehicle hit the truck. All three vehicles burst into flames, closing the highway for hours.

2 killed in fiery crash on Route 22 in Indiana County

Lowers' car went off the road, caught fire and came to rest against an embankment, police said. The tractor-trailer driver, a St. Louis man, was taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center and was expected to survive.
