Passenger David Johnston, 47, killed in collision following police stop and chase on Route 6 in Johnston, Rhode Island

On Wednesday morning, Johnston police identified the driver as Alpha Williams. The name of the male passenger, who died after being transported to Rhode Island Hospital, has not been released, pending notification of relatives.

Passenger in Providence crash dies, driver charged

The police say they are continuing to investigate the crash, and why Williams fled from the traffic stop. Williams was released from Rhode Island Hospital with a summons to appear at Kent County District Court on Monday.

Video from state highway cameras showed the Toyota had suddenly veered across all of the travel lanes toward the off-ramp for Hartford Avenue. The state police reconstruction unit later determined that the vehicle had been speeding more than 100 mph when Williams lost control, Grace said.
