Providence police say a motorist was 2 1/2 times the legal limit for alcohol when he hit a parked car, nearly crashed into a police cruiser and sped through Providence with a street sign lodged under his truck.

Flynn D. Grinnan of Providence was charged with driving under the influence and 10 traffic violations, after his arrest on Saturday.

Police stated that his blood-alcohol level was 0.2 percent. The legal limit is .08 percent.

A police officer said Grinnan’s truck veered onto a sidewalk, taking down a ‘‘no parking’’ sign and dragging it.

The 25-year-old Grinnan was charged and held for the next session of District Court.

It was not known Sunday if he is represented by a lawyer.
