Deadly accident under investigation in Georgetown County
State troopers say 26-year-old Joel Owens was headed west on Choppee Road at 12:35 Sunday morning when he crossed the center line and struck the driver of a 1996 Ford SUV.

One person is dead following a two-car accident that occured overnight Sunday on SC 261 in Georgetown County, South Carolina. At approximately 12:35 AM, a 1996 Ford SUV was driving east on the road, and a second car, a 2005 Ford SUV, was heading west when its driver veered over the center line and struck the first car head-on. The driver of the first car was pronounced deceased at the site of the accident, while the second driver was sent to an area hospital.
