MtPPD officials said Jeland was driving a Jeep SUV south on Highway 17 when he ran a red light. His Jeep hit a 4-door Mercedes that was turning left onto Highway 17 from Mathis Ferry Road. The driver and passenger of the Mercedes were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
