Tractor-trailer driver killed in Interstate 85 crash

FAIR PLAY, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say part of an Upstate interstate has been closed after a crash that killed a trucker trying to avoid a sleepy driver. Sunday while driving on Interstate 85 near Fair Play. According to Boseman, another driver from Alabama says she felt tired at around 6:30 a.m. Anderson County Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman says 60-year-old Gary A. Stephens of Blacksburg was pronounced dead at the scene on Sunday morning. She lost control of her vehicle, went off the side of the road, then came back onto the highway.

Stephens swerved to miss her vehicle, struck it, struck a guard rail and hit a tree. However, family members asked that the dog be cremated and laid to rest with him. She lost control of the vehicle, went off the side of the road and struck the guard wire. Stephens' 14-year-old dog was with him inside of the truck and was not injured.
