S.C. to re-examine deadly Augusta Road intersection
But residents who live nearby say their needs as pedestrians haven't been considered. The project didn't provide any type of traffic signal or pedestrian assistance, something residents of the Augusta Hill Apartments and surrounding homes said is desperately needed.
The victim in a wreck early Thursday morning was trying to cross Augusta Road on foot when he was struck by a Greenville County Sheriff's deputy, authorities said. The wreck is being treated as two separate collisions, he said. The deputy struck the pedestrian and then two other cars collided after the initial wreck. Peaches Butler glanced out her apartment window when she saw flashing lights just after 5:35 a.m. At once, she feared the worst. "They needed that light here," Butler said. "I bet you they'll put a light in now. I think if a light had been here...a light slows everybody down."
