5 people injured, one critically, after a multi-vehicle crash including an ambulance on I-240 in Shelby County, Tennessee

A crash involving multiple vehicles and a private ambulance sent five people to the hospital Thursday, one in critical condition. None of the people inside the three vehicles suffered life-threatening injuries after the incident at Interstate 240 and Perkins Avenue. The median was more of a wall that a SUV flipped over. A car somehow became shoved under the ambulance. "There were no patients on-board the ambulance, and another private ambulance was right behind them and was able to render assistance," said the fire dept. "MPD and TDOT are working with us for the investigation and just clearing out the accident" A UPS driver was on the clock in his big brown delivery truck when he decided to lend a hand and help pull two victims from the wreckage. "I mean, I really wasn't supposed to do it on the job, but it was just instincts," he said. Investigators say it is too early to tell if weather or the wet roads played a role in the crash.
