Family wants alleged drunk driver arrested

A Cheatham County family said it is past time to arrest an alleged drunk driver who crashed into a family, killing a mother and partially paralyzing her baby. 11-month-old Maddie Thornton was partially paralyzed in a crash caused by a drunk driver that killed her mother. Family members said it is not a complicated case. Five months ago, 20-year-old Carl Dollarhide crossed a double-yellow line on Clarksville Pike and crashed into the Thornton family. Tonight on Channel 4 News at 5:00, the family speaks out for the first time.

He has to serve one year in prison before he can be considered for parole, and because he has been in jail since he was indicted in November, Dollarhide could be released as early as later this year.

Around 11 p.m. on Clarksville Pike  a vehicle carrying a man, woman and four children collided, head-on into another vehicle that crossed into oncoming traffic near Creasy Drive. Stacy Thorton died at the scene. Her boyfriend, Lawrence D. Belt III, 29, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His four children were transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. A 10-month-old baby is in critical condition. The other children, ages 2, 5 and 7, are in stable condition. The man driving the other vehicle, Carl Dollarhide Jr., 20, was also critically injured.
