Austin police are investigating a fatal collision on the Interstate 35 frontage road in South Austin.

Police shut down the roadway at the corner of Ben White Boulevard and the I-35 frontage road early Friday morning. It reopened just before 7:30 a.m.

Officers believe a silver Malibu had a minor collision with a black van just south of the river on I-35. The Malibu then left the highway, heading southbound on the frontage road at a very high rate of speed and slammed into the side of a black Toyota Camry.

The two men inside the Camry died at the scene. There were two people inside the Malibu. Paramedics took them to University Medical Center Brackenridge.

There is no information yet on whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Police have not identified anyone involved.
