Gruesome crime scene after fatal crash in S. Austin

The passenger of the trash truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say a trash truck was going westbound on Slaughter Lane when a jeep drove out from a private driveway onto Slaughter Lane The jeep crashed into the back end of the trash truck. The driver of the trash truck refused treatment. Somehow, the passenger of the trash truck fell out of the cab and was run-over by the back tires of the trash truck, then run-over by the jeep that had hit the truck. Police say four others involved in the crash were taken to the hospital, one with potential life-threatening injuries.

Man killed in South Austin collision identified

There is a passenger door on the truck, but police said it was likely open. They are investigating whether the passenger, likely a trash company employee, was wearing his seat belt.
