Bizarre altercation leads to crash and charges

Around midnight, a Chronicle editor observed a man on top of a gray Nissan stopped in the right lane of northbound Kirby Road, south of the U.S. Highway 59 underpass. According to a witness to the crash, the female driver walked away from the scene before police and emergency crews arrived. The man was treated by a nurse who happened onto the scene before paramedics arrived. The man, who appeared confused about where he was, denied riding on top of the vehicle, but police said that he had been.

The man was thrown from the top of a speeding car before it crashed on the Southwest Freeway feeder road near River Oaks, Texas. According to police, the man and woman did not know each other, but became involved in an altercation in Rice Village. Police said the woman had backed into the man's car in the parking lot. When the man approached the woman's car to collect her insurance information, she sped off. At this point, the man jumped onto the hood of her car. The woman will be charged with aggravated assault with a vehicle.
