40-year-old man struck and killed by hit-and-run driver while crossing street in Houston, Texas

Police are searching for a driver who they believe fatally hit a 40-year-old man crossing a southwest Houston street early Saturday morning, authorities said. The victim was crossing the street in the 8700 block of Bellaire shortly before 6 a.m. when he was hit by a vehicle, said a Houston Police Department spokesman. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. His identity is pending an autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene. Evidence and debris, including a portion of the car's white bumper, at the crash scene indicated that the car was a Honda Accord, Cannon said.
