Elderly driver killed by speeding motorist

A 93-year-old driver was killed in a collision with a speeding car on the Southwest Freeway, Houston police said.

A 93-year-old driver was killed in a collision with a speeding car on the Southwest Freeway, Houston police said.

The elderly woman's Mercury Grand Marquis' collided with a Nissan Altima about 8 a.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of the Southwest Freeway, near Dunlavy.

After the collision, the woman's car hit the east- and west-side retaining walls before coming to a stop.

The woman was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Her identity is being withheld pending the notification of her family, authorities said.

Houston police said the Nissan was speeding but the driver did not appear intoxicated at the time of the crash.

The investigation into the wreck is continuing, police said.
