Bond reduced for man accused of killing 6-year-old while driving drunk

The driver accused of killing two people in separate car accidents had his bond reduced by nearly a half Monday. Investigators said he then drove off only to crash into another car, killing Joshua Medrano, 6, and injuring his mother. There is no word yet on why his bond was reduced. Boudreaux's bond was originally set at $400,000. Police said Boudreaux hit and killed homeless veteran Leonard Batiste in April.

As the case against Boudreaux in Harris County moves forward, there are questions about why police allowed him to leave. Three hours after the first crash, prosecutors allege Boudreaux crashed into a Honda Civic, killing 6-year-old Joshua Medrano and critically injuring his mother, Cynthia. New charges have been filed against the man accused of having four DWI-related accidents in one day, including one that resulted in a 6-year-old's death.   In addition to the charges in Harris County, Boudreaux also has two outstanding driving while intoxicated warrants from Louisiana, including one from New Orleans he dropped, officials said. The first crash happened in the Medical Center area.

They say Boudreaux pulled it off by hiding the fact he had already gotten prescriptions from other doctors. Boudreaux was supposed to show up in court Monday but that date got reset to Aug. 26, the same day he'll be appearing on charges related to the wrecks. Police say Boudreax caused the wrecks, while he was high on prescription meds.

The man charged in the alcohol-related crash that killed a 6-year-old is also connected to the hit-and-run death of a homeless man whose body was found the following day, the Harris County assistant district attorney said.

During the court hearing, prosecutors revealed that Boudreaux has two outstanding DWI warrants from Louisiana, including one from New Orleans he dropped, officials said.

According to police, Boudreaux had been drinking before he got behind the wheel of his black Dodge 1500 pickup truck. He was traveling northbound in the 1400 block of Lockwood when he ran a red light at the intersection and struck Medrano's car.

Questions about whether the Houston Police Department officer who responded to the wreck should have detained Boudreaux have been folded in to an internal affairs investigation into the actions of another officer, who responded to the first wreck tied to Boudreaux, said Chief Charles McClelland.

Joshua Medrano's family says those officers dropped the ball."They should have done a better job, and we would have still had our nephew," says David Villanueva.The two officers that came in contact with Boudreaux before the fatal crashes and let him go are under investigation by HPD internal affairs.

Houston Police say Blaine T. Boudreaux, 34, was driving a black Dodge 1500 pickup truck northbound in the 1400 block Lockwood around 6:10 p.m. Sunday when he ran a red light at the intersection at the East Freeway feeder road, striking a black Honda Civic. A 6-year-old identified as Joshua Medrano was a passenger in the Honda and was rushed to Texas Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  The driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. Boudreaux was detained at the scene and subsequently charged with intoxication manslaughter.
