NTSB releases report on fatal plane crash into Lubbock TV tower in 2015

“The pilot acknowledged and then confirmed the turn which the controller amended to 270 degrees,” the report states. “The last recorded transmission from the accident pilot was a read back of the 270 heading assignment.”

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a single-engine Piper PA-46 crashed into an 814-foot KCBD-TV tower while approaching Preston Smith International Airport in West Texas on a flight from Carlsbad, New Mexico. The aircraft dropped off radar around 7:30 p.m. The pilot, Dr. Kenneth Rice, was the only person inside the plane at the time of the crash.
