61-year-old man killed after being struck by vehicle

A 61-year-old Hampton man was killed Monday night after being struck by a vehicle on Pine Chapel Road.

Officers were dispatched at about 5:15 p.m. to the 200 block of Pine Chapel Road, and upon their arrival found Emanuel Lane II suffering from serious injuries, according to a Hampton Police Division news release. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Lane to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries shortly before midnight, the news release said.

An investigation revealed that a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant was traveling eastbound on Pine Chapel Road when the driver struck a pedestrian that was in the roadway, the news release said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by members of the Hampton Police Division Fatal Crash Team, the news release said. As of Tuesday morning, there had been no charges filed in the accident.
