Virginia State Police are investigating a three-vehicle accident that happened in the southbound lanes of the James River Bridge Sunday morning.

According to State Police spokeswoman just after 10 a.m. a 2013 Jeep SUV struck a vehicle that stopped for a bridge lift, causing a chain reaction where a third vehicle was also struck. The crash caused one vehicle to overturn, trapping the people inside. Rescue crews were able to free the people who were trapped. They sustained minor injuries, according to Anaya. The crash blocked the southbound lanes and traffic was turned around on the bridge while crews cleared the accident, according to VDOT. Police charged Ryan Everett of Carrollton, Va. with reckless driving.
