Investigation: “Driver inattentiveness” caused fatal CBBT crash

An investigation has revealed that the fatal accident involving a tractor-trailer that crashed into a maintenance truck on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel before jack-knifing and crashing into the Chesapeake Bay in May was caused by “driver inattentiveness,” a CBBT spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.

Body of driver recovered from CBBT wreck

Daawuud Z. Hakim was recovered from the water by divers around 8:55 a.m. Saturday, according to CBBT police Sgt. Steve Wilson.

Tractor-trailer hits maintenance truck on CBBT and crashes into bay; recovery for driver underway

A recovery effort is underway after a tractor trailer crashed into a maintenance truck before jack-knifing and crashing into the Chesapeake Bay Thursday morning.

A recovery effort is underway after a tractor trailer crashed into a maintenance truck before jack-knifing and crashing into the Chesapeake Bay Thursday morning.

The tractor trailer traveled over the bridge near mile marker 15 shortly after 10:00 a.m.

The tractor trailer driver was heading northbound, as workers were on the CBBT making repairs to cracks.

The tractor trailer crashed into one of the maintenance trucks, as well as a light pole, police say. It then went over the railing and into the water.

Navy crews have hooked up cables to the cab of the truck and the trailer to keep them from drifting, officials say. The truck was visible above the surface for quite a while but has since sunk.

Virginia Beach Fire and EMS teams are on scene, attempting to recover what was reported as a single occupant of the truck, police say.

So far, nobody has made contact with the driver.

Navy sources tell NewsChannel 3 that they provided a rescue swimmer who made multiple attempts to try and reach the driver. However, the cab of the truck was reportedly too damaged for the swimmer to breach.

Some of these comments are why society is in shape its in so many self righteous drivers and people in general lot of these drivers are merely a number and a body behind the wheel as a driver myself I travel that way a couple times a week only thing I say is when coming from va beach no rest area before entering bridge tunnel as for as for people who arent cdl drivers why arent they made take a physical car and people texting just as dangerous plus no remorse in usa
