Two people dead after car crash, fire in Chesterfield County

Around 5:47 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, a car was driving northbound on the 3200 block of Old Gun Road West in Chesterfield when it ran off the road, hit a driveway, flipped and then caught fire.

Police said around 5:47 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, the driver along with a passenger were heading northbound on Old Gun Rd W. when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a driveway, flipped, and caught on fire. The driver and passenger were both pronounced deceased at the scene.

These friends were killed. Now their parents are speaking out.

The families want to prevent other parents from going through that nightmare by featuring their sons' stories in the Chesterfield County Police Department's "In Memory Of" campaign, which features people who have lost their lives to the four main causes of deadly crashes: speed, driving under the influence, and not wearing a seatbelt.

Several seniors at James River High School hosted a 3-on-3 basketball tournament Saturday named for and played in honor of Will Hammitt and Nick Booth, who were seniors at the school when they crashed on Old Gun Road West in April 2023.
