Child dead, four others injured in I-81 crash

Neither the driver of the ambulance, Christopher B. Arnold, 40, of Marion, Va., nor the adult male frontseat passenger were injured in the crash. The 16-year-old female front-seat passenger was flown to Holston Valley Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The female adult driver of the Toyota was flown to Bristol Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. A child was killed and four other people, including two who were airlifted to local hospitals, were injured as the result of a two-vehicle crash in Washington County, Va., Saturday afternoon. A 2012 Toyota was traveling north on I-81 when it crossed the median and struck a southbound ambulance.

Victims of fatal crash on Interstate 81 identified

The Virginia State Police has identified the victims of a two-vehicle crash in Washington County, Va., on Saturday afternoon. All of the back seat passengers are the children of the driver. Clarissa C. Guevara-Cruz, 5, of Houston, Texas, was in the back seat and was killed in the crash. The other back seat passengers were Monica G. Guevara-Cruz, 7, and Yareli J. Tejeda, 2, and they were transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital. According to Corrine N. Geller, Virginia State Police public relations director, Senior Trooper P.K. Lower responded shortly before 1 p.m. to the crash in the southbound lanes of I-81 near mile marker 32.
