Battle Ground man dies after rear-end crash on Highway 503

The State Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision.

Christopher D. Steffen, 62, of Battle Ground, died in the hospital after a Friday evening rear-end crash in the Orchards area. Around 6:30 p.m. Friday, Steffen was heading north on state Highway 503 in a Ford F-150 pickup when he rear-ended a Ford Expedition that was stopped in the left turn lane at Northeast 71st Street. The Expedition was then pushed into a Ford Focus that was also stopped at the intersection. Steffen was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center where he later died. The driver of Expedition, 20-year-old Jafar S. Tiatia, and the driver of the Focus, 53-year-old Alan W. Connors, both of Vancouver, were not hurt.
