A witness told police they saw a black pick-up truck with unknown West Virginia registration as the vehicle that struck her friend. A statement from Ole Miss was provided by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Brandi LaBanc. According to the university, Sears was a junior majoring in hospitality management and was also a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. Carli Sears, 20, who was attending Ole Miss, was hit by a black pick-up truck on Stewart Street in Morgantown around 2:30 a.m. Our thoughts are with all of her family and those in the Ole Miss family that shared in her life."

A 19-year-old Winfield man was arrested in relation to the hit-and-run incident in Morgantown early Sunday morning. According to Morgantown police, the black pick-up truck that struck and killed 20-year-old Carli Sears has been found and is being processed for evidence. An arrest has been made in the death of an Ole Miss student. Sears, who was a resident of Charleston, West Virginia, was taken to West Virginia University’s Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment after being struck. Information on the arrest was also set to be released by Ole Miss later this afternoon. Carli Sears, 20, was involved in a vehicle versus pedestrian hit-and-run type accident in Morgantown, West Virginia, early Sunday morning. It appears that detectives involved in the case were able to track down the truck through damage.

Morgantown Police say they are looking for a black pick-up truck that struck Sears on Stewart Street then left the scene. The vehicle should have damage to the right front fender area along with possible grill and passenger mirror damage, according to police. Morgantown Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 304-284-7522.
