Tanker crashes, 1,000 gallons of fuel spilled

The crash shut down Highway 73 for hours. Fuel had to be pumped from the tanker before it was turned upright.

The crash remains under investigation. Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Columbia County Emergency Management, Randolph Fire and EMS, Friesland Fire, Divine Savior EMS, Enbridge, Landmark Services, Columbia County Highway, DNR, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Portage Fire Department HazMat Team.

At around 5:55 a.m. Tuesday morning, an estimated 1,000 galons of fuel were spilled when a tanker truck overturned. This incident occured on Highway 73 near Randolph, Wisconsin in Columbia County. According to witnesses, the driver appeared to have swerved to avoid hitting an animal. The tanker was hauling 8,500 gallons of fuel at the time and had to be pumped before being turned upright. The driver was taken to the hospital. The extent of injury is currently unknown.
