That caused the truck, which contained an estimated 800 pounds of asphalt, to swerve left, cross the median and strike a westbound vehicle on the other side of the highway. As it crossed the median, the dump truck hit the end of the inner guardrail on the westbound side, somewhat slowing it and preventing a head-on crash, Maccari said.
