UPDATE: Pittsville teen killed in crash identified

The principal at Pittsville High School tells Newsline 9 counselors and clergy members are available to students who want to talk to someone.

Amanda Simonson and Kayla Ignatowski were traveling in opposite directions on County Highway 8 just north of Pittsville in Wood County Wednesday morning Ignatowski's vehicle crossed the center line while negotiating a curve, hitting Simonson head-on. Roads were wet and snow-covered at the time of the crash, but weather is not being cited as a factor by authorities. Ignatowski, who was a senior at Pittsville High School, was killed. She was not wearing a seat belt. Simonson was trapped in her car and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Good Samaritans stopped at the scene.
