4 confirmed dead in plane crash west of Cody

Soon after, the plane soon suddenly turned east toward Cody and went into a steep descent. The Park County Sheriff's Office says four people died in a small twin-engine plane crash Saturday in northwest Wyoming. The plane strayed from its scheduled flight path and circled Yellowstone National Park shortly after takeoff. The Powell Tribune reports there were no survivors and two females and two males died in the crash around noon Saturday northwest of the Buffalo Bill Reservoir. The plane had left the airport in Sheridan around 11 a.m. and was headed to Billings.

Sheriff's office identifies 4 who died in plane crash Saturday

The 1979 Cessna 310 twin prop airplane departed from Sheridan County Airport at 11 a.m. Saturday, and its flight plan indicated Billings as the destination. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot steered the Cessna off course and circled Yellowstone National Park. After completing the loop, the pilot headed back toward Billings. Shortly after, he made a turn toward Cody, Wyo., and began a steep descent, dropping below Salt Lake City air traffic control’s radar at 11:56 a.m.

Investigators say failed engine caused Wyoming plane crash

An April report from the National Transportation Safety Board says the pilot, 66-year-old Don Scott from Denver, likely lost control of the Cessna when its left engine lost power on July 18, 2015. The board was not able to determine what caused the engine to fail.
